Welcome to Food Box Foundation

The primary goal of the Food Box Foundation aims to abolish hunger nationwide and give daily nourishing and clean meals to needy, destitute children. This campaign’s slogan is “No kid should go hungry.” It has an end-hunger kitchen where food is prepared and distributed to the less fortunate. Through a statewide network of food banks, end-hunger kitchen has responded to the hunger issue in India by helping those in need

The Reality of Hunger

Hunger is a condition in which adults and children can’t get food all the time, have to eat less, eat poorly, and often go without food.

The troubled or painful sensation brought on by a lack of food is another definition of hunger. Imagine a child’s empty stomach rumbling, a parent struggling to provide a single meal, or an elder going without proper nutrition. Sadly, this is the harsh reality for millions around the world. Hunger not only robs individuals of their basic needs but also hinders their potential for growth and success.

Food Waste in India

50kg of food is wasted per person per year in Indian homes. Shockingly, an estimated 931 million tonnes of food,or 17% of total food

available to consumers in 2019 globally, went to waste. This was revealed in the Food Waste Index Report 2021, which found that households, retailers, restaurants and other food services all contribute to this issue. Let’s take action to reduce food waste and ensure that everyone has access to the nutrition they need.

Health and hunger

India is home to 195.9 million of the world’s 821 million undernourished people, accounting for approximately 24 percent of the world’s

hungry.Shockingly, India ranks 94th out of the 107 countries on the 2020 Global Hunger Index, with a score of 27.2, which is considered serious. The prevalence of undernourishment in India is 14.8%, higher than the global and Asian averages. About 15 percent of India is undernourished, and one-third of food gets lost or wasted. Additionally, women account for 60 percent of India’s hungry population. The impact of hunger on children is devastating, with 3,000 children dying every day from hunger, and around 30 percent of newborns dying from lack of nutrition. It’s clear that India faces a significant hunger crisis, and addressing this issue requires a collective effort from all sectors of society. Let’s work together towards a world where every person has access to the basic human right of food.

What We Do :

Food Box Foundation estimates over a million people in India will face hunger this year. We have created the fundraiser to help provide much-needed meals to our neighbors through the network of food banks. Access to food changes much more. Food Box Foundation serves daily nutritious meals to beneficiaries to help them come out of hunger. Providing daily meals reduces the financial burden in the short term, empowering them to become hunger-free in the long term. We give food as an incentive for children to come to slum schools and adults. They upskill themselves and become self-sufficient individuals.

Our Mission:

We champion the universal right to nourishment and dignity. Our mission combats hunger’s root causes through nutritious meals, sustainable food practices, and empowering communities to escape poverty’s cycle. We strive for city-wide community kitchens, ensuring free food access for the underprivileged.
In 2021, Sudhir Singh founded a food bank in Prayagraj after witnessing children hungry during the COVID crisis. His inspiration came from seeing kids waiting for scraps. Establishing Prayag’s first food bank, Singh and volunteers distributed 50,000 kg of food initially, gaining recognition citywide. By year-end, they fed over 60,000, striving for 100,000 in the first year. Today, Food Box Foundation stands as the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, comprising a robust network of food banks nationwide. As food insecurity remains at record highs, the foundation has stepped up to feed countless individuals at risk, including children and seniors. Opening Doors to Education: Support Our Open School for Underprivileged Children

Every day at exactly 4 PM, 40 to 50 children scramble for the best seat in the classroom on the ground alongside the new Ganga Riverbank in Mundra Prayagraj. Their school does not have classrooms, a cooling fan, or chairs for children to sit on, but teachers who are also students at various universities and volunteers for the Food Box take care of their thirst for education. More than 40 slum children now attend the "open" school, which was established one month ago. It all began with the work of the Food Box team under the leadership of Sudhir Singh. When they noticed slum children beggaring outside of temples or picking up trash, they decided to teach them every day. and establish a free school on the opposite side of the temple so that the 45 + children could receive an education.
